PUERTO DEL ROSARIO - FUERTEVENTURA

Puerto Del Rosario is the capital of Fuerteventura and has been since 1860.  It is situated quite close to the airport and has lots of different shops including a new enormous shopping centre which opened in March 2006.

Puerto del Rosario FUERTEVENTURA

It really does not take very long to get to Puerto Del Rosario from the north or south of Fuerteventura (around 45 minutes) making this a great spot for a days shopping from all directions.  Puerto Del Rosario was once called Puerto de Cabras (goat harbour) but due to the fact that the church in the centre of ‘Puerto’ is dedicated to the patron saint ‘Virgin del Rosario’ and the fact that ‘goat harbour’ is not really a great name for a capital, the town was given the more pleasant name of Puerto del Rosario in 1956. There is a culture centre, Casa de la Cultura where exhibitions, plays and concerts are held and improvements in Puerto Del Rosario are constantly being made to enhance and develop the capital.  The most recent large investment has been the opening of a new shopping mall, Las Rotondas.  It occupies 70,000m2 with 32,000m2 of shops situated on four floors and is a wonderful development for local and visitor shoppers alike.  The centre also has bars and restaurants giving plenty of opportunity for regular rejuvenating breaks!
