FUERTEVENTURA BEACH & WEATHER

There is nowhere else in the Canary Islands with as many enormous sand dunes and long sandy beaches (more than 150) and with three thousand hours of sunshine a year, these can be really enjoyed to the full.  The beaches here are considered to be some of the most impressive in the whole of Europe.

Water sports are very popular in Fuerteventura with hundreds of surfers, windsurfers and divers arriving each year culminating in July when the island is host to the P.W.A. world windsurfing speed and slalom event at Sotavento beach in the south.  Crystal clear warm Atlantic waters, together with a perfect climate and beautiful beaches, make Fuerteventura the ideal sporting venue.

The weather conditions of Fuerteventura are very similar to Florida and Mexico which are on the same latitude, and as the average sea temperature is always between 19c and 22c most people enjoy the island’s turquoise waters all year round making this the ideal holiday location.

SUNBATHING

If you want that all-over tan then Fuerteventura is the ideal place.  Although there aren’t any designated naturist beaches, the general rule is if you are out of town and the area is not ‘sun bedded’ then it’s OK to expose those parts not often publicly displayed!  Topless sunbathing is tolerated everywhere but bear in mind that not everyone may share your views.  However, the practice of beach nudism exists but does not cause a stir; perhaps the odd raised eyebrow from tourists caught unawares.  The most important point to remember is to apply sun tan lotion liberally at all times!
